About 1913, a Christmas display at Livingstone’s butcher’s shop, Broad Street. Although these displays were a regular annual event put on by nearly all butchers at this time, this is clearly an especially fine display for several carcases bear tickets showing that the beast won first prize or a challenge cup at Winchester market. Ready to serve the customers are (from right to left) three assistants, Mr Archibald Livingstone senior, proprietor and father of Mary, Margaret, Donald, Archie and Niel

The carcases hang mainly from a wrought iron canopy which still stands outside the shop. Beasts were driven to slaughter along the driveway to the left of the shop
