Wield School, c.1905

The children of Wield School photographed with Mrs Burgess, the Mistress, remembered by some of her pupils as a very strict disciplinarian, who administered the cane liberally, but was respected. Several of the boys in this photograph fought in the First World War, including Charlie Jones, Arthur and Ted Prior, Percy Smith and Percy Gough, who was killed in action in 1918
