Reading of the outbreak of War. August 1914. Outside Medstead Post Office

The declaration of war in August 1914: The Post Master, Dick Licence, is fifth from the right. In front are two of his children, Phyllis and George. On the extreme left is Arthur Jeffery, known as “Cocker”, carpenter and undertaker who lived at Jubilee Cottage (now demolished and redeveloped). At the back wearing a hat is Tom Smith, in the doorway behind is Audrey Foster who worked in the Post Office
