In the foreground the footpath is being upgraded and an area of the roadside banking on the south side of the street is being levelled to provide the present parallel flat car parking area.
The gentleman walking up the street has just passed the shops of H. J. Whiticar, Fruiterer & Florist (now Fine Cuts 2 Hairdresser) and a chemists (now Oakleaf Stationery). In the centre of the photograph is the shop of T. J. Ellingham, Baker & Grocer. (now Tiffin Tea Rooms).
